The game encourages physical activity and social interaction, blending gaming with real-world exploration and community engagement. Features & Highlights

  • Augmented Reality Gameplay: Ingress transforms the real world into a vibrant battlefield. As I stroll through my local park, I can see portals represented by colorful icons on my smartphone screen, which I can interact with by capturing or defending them. This immersive experience makes every outing an adventure.
  • Faction-Based Strategy: Players choose to align with either the Enlightened or the Resistance. This choice influences gameplay significantly. I remember teaming up with friends from the Enlightened to capture a series of portals in our city center, leading to a thrilling day of strategy and teamwork.
  • Community Events: Ingress regularly hosts global events that unite players. I participated in a "Mission Day" event, where we completed specific in-game challenges while exploring new neighborhoods. The camaraderie and sense of achievement after completing our goals together was unbeatable.
  • Real-Time Notifications: The app keeps you updated with real-time alerts about your surroundings. Once, while walking home, I received a notification about a portal being attacked nearby. I quickly rushed to reinforce it, feeling like a true guardian of my territory.
  • Customizable Inventory Management: The game offers a rich inventory system for managing items and resources. I often find myself strategizing about which items to keep or deploy based on my current missions, adding depth to my gameplay experience.

Real Experience Using Ingress

Application Scenarios

Using Ingress has become a part of my daily routine, seamlessly blending into both my leisure and work life. For instance, during my lunch breaks, I often take a stroll around my office to capture nearby portals. It’s a fun way to stretch my legs and take a mental break from work. On weekends, I plan meetups with friends who share my passion for the game, organizing small expeditions to tackle local portals that require teamwork to capture. Each outing is not just about playing; it’s a chance to explore hidden gems in my city that I might never have discovered otherwise. The app turns mundane walks into exhilarating quests.

User Experience

The UI of Ingress is user-friendly, with a map interface that feels intuitive even for newcomers. Upon opening the app, I’m greeted with a vibrant map filled with portals, and navigating through them is generally straightforward. The workflow for capturing portals is seamless—simply tap on a portal, select the action, and execute. The performance is generally smooth, though occasionally I experience lag in crowded areas, which can be a tad frustrating. Overall, the thrill of engaging with the environment and strategizing with others outweighs these minor inconveniences, leaving me consistently eager to explore and engage.

Pricing

Ingress is free to download and play, which is a significant plus. However, there are in-app purchases available for those who wish to enhance their experience. These purchases can range from additional items to unique enhancements that can give players a competitive edge. Despite the option to spend money, I’ve found that the game is entirely enjoyable without spending a dime, as resource management and strategic gameplay are key to success.

Updates & Support

The developers of Ingress are committed to providing regular updates, which keeps the gameplay fresh and engaging. I appreciate the new features and bug fixes that come with each update, ensuring that any issues I experienced were typically resolved promptly. Support is accessible through community forums and official channels, and I’ve found the community to be incredibly helpful. Whenever I have questions or need assistance, it’s reassuring to know that support is just a message away.

Security & Privacy Review

As a user, security and privacy are paramount, and it’s reassuring that Ingress is available on both official app stores—Google Play and the App Store. This gives me some confidence in its legitimacy. During registration, I was required to provide basic personal information, such as my email address, but I appreciate that they are transparent about how this data is used. There are no intrusive ads, and I haven’t noticed any excessive tracking behavior. The app only accesses my location when I’m actively using it, which is essential for gameplay but also respects my privacy when I’m not playing. Overall, I feel comfortable using Ingress, knowing that my data is handled responsibly.

I absolutely enjoy this game. It motivated me to get outside and explore new places. Even when I'm out in places that I'm already familiar with, this game shows me things I wouldn't normally notice. Besides the exploration part, I enjoy the competition factor and the events that bring players together to meet one another, such as the Ingress First Saturday events. For the new players looking to check out this game, Resist being overwhelmed with the techy look to it. There's a built in handbook.

I used to enjoy playing it, but it's virtually unplayable now with the addition of the AI/Machina. The AI/Machina spreads way too fast. I have to use all of my items just to be able to hack a portal and I don't get nearly enough items in return. Once I run out of my bursters and power cubes I'm not going to be able to play anymore because the AI has left no neutral portals to collect items from in my town.

The original GPS-based game from Niantic. For more than 13 years this game has fostered an amazing global community of people who know "it's time to move." There are no ads/commercials and it's free to play. Gameplay will take you outside, increase your step count, and you'll likely discover something new around you. For many, a big part of the Ingress experience is the social aspect. If you like the game, connect with other players on social media. You'll likely meet some terrific people.

Started playing shortly after pokemon go started and stopped playing shortly after, returned about a year ago and I have been enjoying the game. Wish there were more players in the area but so be it. I have gotten to the point of needing higher required metals to level and some of them are so far out of reach that this is my reason for only 4 stars. Other than that I am having fun.

Doctor's orders, "Get more exercise!" I know that I will never go to a gym. So what's an old fat gamer to do . . . GPS games! Glad to see that there are more of them out there today. However most are not my genre. Scanning the list I'm happy to see an old favorite with an upgrade. Ingres is now Ingress Prime! Love the premise, and the game play. But more than that, love the community; no matter the faction. So pick s side and get out there and explore your surroundings.

  • Fixes• Fixed showing your location on the globe just after signing into Ingress and granting location permission.• Speculative fixes for stuck Portals that get un-stuck by adding a thumbs up to their Portal photos, as well as being unable to start a new mission.
