Real Experience Using Canvas Student
Application Scenarios
In my daily life as a college student, Canvas Student has become my go-to app for managing my academic responsibilities. Each morning, I start my day by checking the app to review my schedule and see upcoming assignments. On days when I have classes, I use it to access course materials and lecture notes directly from my phone. During group projects, the integrated messaging feature allows me to stay in touch with my peers, facilitating smooth communication. I’ve even used the app to submit assignments while on the go, ensuring I meet deadlines without the stress of being at my desk.
User Experience
The user interface of Canvas Student is intuitive and user-friendly. Navigating through my courses feels seamless, with a well-organized layout that makes locating assignments and announcements straightforward. The app's performance is generally smooth, with minimal loading times, which is crucial during busy periods like midterms. One of my favorite features is the calendar view, which visually presents all my upcoming assignments and tests in one glance. This feature helps me prioritize my study time effectively. Overall, my experience with Canvas Student has been positive, as it has significantly simplified my academic life and helped me stay organized.

The support system is reliable; I’ve reached out for help regarding a technical issue and received a prompt response. Additionally, the app offers a comprehensive help center, which is incredibly useful for troubleshooting common issues or learning how to utilize new features.
Security & Privacy Review
As an American user, security and privacy are crucial when it comes to educational apps like Canvas Student. The app is available on both the App Store and Google Play, providing a sense of reliability from official sources. When registering, I was required to provide basic personal information, including my name and email address, which is standard for educational platforms. I appreciate that Canvas Student does not bombard me with ads, ensuring a distraction-free environment. Moreover, the app adheres to privacy regulations, which is reassuring for students concerned about their data. The absence of invasive tracking behavior means I can focus on my studies without worrying about my personal information being misused.

How this app has 4.6 stars is beyond me. To-do list is messed up. Sometimes the syllabus button links to the syllabus, sometimes it links to modules. A lot of this can be chalked up to professor issues though. I didn't have an issue last semester. What I can't get past though? REMOVING THE OPTION TO SCAN. Now I have to use another app to make a pdf and upload it manually.

So... This worked great. Solid, good UI, totally a 5-star app. Then I had the audacity to need it for courses at two schools at once. Instead of, say, keeping me logged in to both and letting me switch with a simple drop-down (like email apps and websites have for over 25 years) it instead logs me out of both after short periods of inactivity--say, the time it takes to read a section and take a short quiz on a publisher's app. 1-star for failing at basic credential management.

Using this as a parent has been incredibly frustrating. It completely fails to sync assignment status or grades. Push notifications to my phone are almost non-existent as well. The only reason it isn't a 1 star is the email notifications at least let me know if should talk to our child about something related to school... so he can pull up his canvas which seems to sync okay and we can review it together.

It keeps crashing and logging me out nonstop since the last update. I was also not able to leave a 1 star rating when I tried last week. Just started using canvas almost 2 months now, everything was great. I had only logged in once in over a month. Now, it will not even stay logged in for 5 minutes. As soon as I exit the app or while trying to go back from entering a module it crashes and flashes the canvas screen like 4 times rapidly and I have to log back in. This is so inconvenient.

app was working great until a week or so ago... signs me out on every action I take in the app. ToDo list will not populate in app or widget. I heavily rely on the todo list widget to get all my assignments done on time but now I can't see it because it won't keep me signed in and when I finally get signed in it doesn't populate the to do list.
