Mobile Passport Control is a mobile app developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that allows travelers to submit their passport information and customs declaration form via their smartphone or tablet prior to arriving at the airport. The app is designed to expedite the traveler

Features & Highlights

If you're a frequent traveler to the United States, the Mobile Passport Control app is a game changer. Designed to expedite the customs process, this app offers numerous features that enhance the travel experience. Here are some core highlights:

  • Fast Track Entry: The app allows users to submit their passport information and customs declaration via their mobile device before arriving at the airport. This means you can bypass long lines and make your way through customs much more quickly. For instance, during my recent trip back from Europe, I was able to skip a line that stretched for nearly an hour, saving me valuable time.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The app is designed with simplicity in mind. Its intuitive layout makes it easy for users of all ages to navigate. I was pleasantly surprised by how straightforward it was to input my data, even while juggling my luggage and boarding pass.
  • Real-Time Notifications: Mobile Passport Control keeps you updated with alerts about your submission status and any changes in customs procedures. During my last flight, I received a notification that my submission was approved while I was still waiting to deplane, which helped me prepare for a seamless transition once I landed.
  • Multiple User Profiles: The app allows you to create profiles for family members traveling with you. This feature was particularly helpful when I traveled with my spouse and child; I could manage all our information within one app instead of juggling three separate forms.
  • Free to Use: Unlike many travel apps, Mobile Passport Control is completely free. You won't encounter any hidden fees, which is a refreshing change in a world where so many services come with a price tag.

Real Experience Using Mobile Passport Control

Application Scenarios

Having used the Mobile Passport Control app multiple times, I can attest to its reliability and effectiveness in various scenarios. On a recent family trip to Italy, we landed at Atlanta International Airport, which is notorious for its long customs lines. Instead of dreading the wait, I pulled out my phone and launched the app. After entering our details, I received a QR code that allowed us to skip the line and head straight to the customs officer. It felt great to see the envy on the faces of those still waiting in line!

User Experience

The user interface of Mobile Passport Control is sleek and modern. The app guides you through each step seamlessly, from entering your passport information to submitting your customs declaration. I found the process to be nearly foolproof, with prompts and tips to help along the way. The performance was excellent; I never faced any crashes or slowdowns, even during peak travel times. Overall, using the app felt empowering—like I had a little secret that made my travels smoother and less stressful.

Pricing

One of the most appealing aspects of the Mobile Passport Control app is that it is entirely free to download and use. There are no hidden fees or premium features that require payment, which is a significant advantage over many other travel apps. This makes it accessible to anyone looking to simplify their travel experience without breaking the bank.

Updates & Support

Mobile Passport Control is frequently updated to ensure compatibility with the latest devices and to improve functionality. I appreciate that any bugs or user feedback are taken seriously, with regular enhancements rolled out. The customer support team is responsive; when I had a question about a recent update, I received a prompt and helpful response via email. This level of support adds to my overall confidence in using the app for my travels.

Security & Privacy Review

For American users, security and privacy are paramount when it comes to mobile apps, especially those handling sensitive personal information. Mobile Passport Control is available on both the App Store and Google Play, which adds a layer of credibility. The app requires you to register and provide personal data, including passport numbers and travel itineraries. However, I felt reassured by their commitment to data security, as they do not sell user data to third parties.

Importantly, the app does not contain ads or engage in intrusive tracking behavior, which is often a concern for mobile users today. This focus on privacy makes me comfortable using the app, knowing that my information is safeguarded while I enjoy the convenience of expedited customs processing.

Pros
  • Expedited entry through customs and immigration checkpoints
  • Reduces wait times for travelers at airports
  • User-friendly app for easy processing
  • Secure and efficient data submission process
  • Available for U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors
Cons
  • Limited to specific airports only
  • May encounter technical issues
  • Requires a smartphone or app
  • Not all travelers eligible

Very frustrating process. Set up my account before we left. When we arrived back in US (@IAD) the app made me re-log in and then wouldn't accept my passport photo as accurate - even though it was the same passport I scanned when I set-up my account. After 6 tries, I basically forced the app to accept it, bypassing a verification step (if you can by pass the verification, why have it at all?). We were then informed to join a specific line, that had NO AGENT working. This was NOT simple or short

I've used this app multiple times at BWI for me and my family. I took my photo at the end of the ramp when coming off the plane. It's out of the way and a solid background. Each time I've used it, I was able to walk right to customs and use it without issue. Only the Global Entry holders get priority access over you, and there were none whenever I used it.

This app is pretty useless. I tried it but you can't submit it until you land at the entry point airport. Then you have to take a photo of yourself. Clear light, no distracting backgrounds, no other distinguishable faces, and you can't pull a photo from your gallery. It's next to impossible to meet these conditions while you're in the airport at customs. This step should probably come before the submit button. No idea what comes after that. Didn't get passed the photo portion.

I used this app arriving in Miami. Not sure why so many people hate it. Seems to me it must have been user error. I put all the important information in the app the day before travel for 3 of us. It holds your information until you arrive at your destination. As soon as the flight landed, I hit in Airport and we all took our photos in the plane. Following all the directions. The clock starts to tick down from 4 hours. Found our assigned line and we were through customs in 10 minutes.

Totally worthless. Info shows this option is available at DFW. Downloaded the app when leaving, then when we arrived back at DFW, got an error saying I didn't have the latest version. Couldn't update so, had to start all over, just to find out that there were no options to use this when entering customs! Official there said the app was totally useless so...don't just take my word for it!
